502160_aMulti-plant facility in the Netherlands chooses optimal migration approach

SABIC Innovative Plastics will migrate all existing PROVOX® process control and safety systems at its multi-plant production facility in Bergen op Zoom, the Netherlands, to the ‘state-of-the-art’ DeltaV™ digital automation system from Emerson Process Management.  The facility will also add Emerson’s DeltaV SIS™ safety management systems.

The Bergen op Zoom facility produces engineering plastics for use in the automotive, building and construction, consumer electronics, medical appliances, and other industries. SABIC Innovative Plastics and Emerson worked together to develop the most effective migration strategy for the seven plants involved. An integrated team from both companies will establish an efficient switchover process that provides minimum impact on production availability, as well as minimum cost.

“With this investment we confirm our long-term relationship with Emerson as our strategic partner for process automation,” said Willem Grin, site manager for SABIC Innovative Plastics. “The DeltaV system will help us meet tomorrow’s manufacturing needs today by providing more intelligence in the control system; allowing easy deployment; improving reliability, safety and security; lowering engineering cost; and increasing flexibility. With the DeltaV and DeltaV SIS integrated control and safety systems, we will run our plants with an optimal total cost of ownership and maximum availability from a process automation perspective.”

“The DeltaV system helps our customers improve operations by harnessing today’s predictive technologies in an easy and interoperable way to connect people, processes and production,” said Hedwig Leemans, vice president for Emerson Process Systems and Solutions Europe. “The DeltaV system makes use of the latest technology like I/O on Demand and electronic marshalling. It offers the ultimate scalability and embedded intelligent control, and is built to take full advantage of communication technologies like FOUNDATION™ fieldbus and Emerson’s Smart Wireless. The DeltaV SIS system, which is part of Emerson’s Smart SIS solution, helps deliver optimal process reliability by integrating diagnostic information from the field devices.”
